Bed Parties

Celebrations

Class of 2026+

A college bed party is a celebration of a student’s college commitment, where their bed (and the room around it) is decked out in their new school’s colors. Think balloons, a banner, school-spirit bedding, merch spread across the comforter and one very proud photo moment. Here’s exactly how to throw one, plus the must-haves we bring to every setup.

What is a college bed party?

A bed party is the “I got in!” moment, made official. Once a student commits, family and friends turn their bed into a school-color showcase and celebrate with photos, snacks and gifts. It’s become a favorite tradition for graduating seniors, and it doubles as the first piece of their college story.

Timing

When should you throw a bed party?

Most families throw a bed party right after their student commits, often around National College Decision Day on May 1. Others time it to the day the enrollment deposit is paid, or pair it with a graduation get-together. Any day that marks the yes works.

7 steps

Here’s the step-by-step we follow for every bed party we style:

  1. Pick the palette. Start with the school’s official colors and add one neutral (white, cream or silver) so the setup feels pulled together, not overwhelming.
  2. Make the bed the centerpiece. School-color bedding, a pile of pillows and a spirit throw turn the bed into the stage. Everything else builds around it.
  3. Go big with balloons and a backdrop. A balloon garland in school colors plus a banner or flag behind the headboard instantly sets the scene. Marquee letters with the school’s initials are a crowd favorite.
  4. Spread the merch. Lay out bookstore finds across the bed: tees, sweatshirts, a pennant, a water bottle and accessories. It looks abundant in photos and every piece goes with them to campus.
  5. Add the personal touches. Personalized signs, a photo display and a yard sign out front make it about your student, not just the school.
  6. Snacks and a little sparkle. Set out yummy snacks, fresh flowers and a bedazzled bottle (sparkling cider works perfectly) for the toast.
  7. Capture the moment. Clear the clutter, open the blinds and get the shot. That photo is the one they’ll post, frame and look back on.
